Butter London recently released six new shades for their Christmas 2012 collection. I have four of these to swatch and review for you today - Scallyway, Fiddlesticks, Jack the Lad and Fairy Cake.
Scallywag is a bright blue glitter in a clear base. It's actually an extremely dense combination of blue and silver glitters, and the sparkle is amazing! It's opaque in 3 coats and dries to a gritty matte finish. I normally prefer to have my polish smooth and glossy but I like the velvety texture of this. It smooths out quickly with two coats of Seche Vite.

Fiddlesticks is an interesting one. In the bottle it looks like a magenta glitter, but it's actually pink glitter and irregular black flecks in a magenta base. It reminds me a lot of raspberry jam... Or maybe cranberry sauce to go with the whole christmas theme? Like Scallywag, it dries to a matte finish, but because of the base it's more of a rubbery texture which I don't really like. I used 3 coats here with one coat of SV.

Jack the Lad is my favourite out of this collection. It's a blackened green base full of green and blue flecks. The formula is silky smooth, as expected, and is opaque in 3 coats.

Here is a comparison between Jack the Lad and China Glaze Smoke and Ashes. They're not dupes at all, but I wanted to show how Jack the Lad is a super amped up version of Smoke and Ashes.

Fairy Cake is a dense mix of silver and holographic glitter and micro glitter. It leans towards a delicate champagne hue. It's crazy sparkly! It's mostly opaque in 3 coats, but it applies easily and doesn't get as thick and gloopy as other glitters with this many coats.

The other two shades available in this collection are Scuppered and Shambolic. None of the shades that I have are terribly unique, apart from Jack the Lad, but I quite like them. I can see myself wearing Scallywag a lot this summer.
Butter London polishes are available at selected pharmacies in Australia if you know where to look (unfortunately they don't seem to have a store finder on their website so finding a stockist is sheer luck, really). They are also available pretty often on Brandsexclusive and Ozsale.
I like Jack the Lad the best, such a pretty deep green - it looks great with a shiny top coat! Beautiful swatches :)
ReplyDeleteJack the Lad is my favourite too :)
